Still Hungry

Today’s scripture
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”
1 Peter 2:2 (NIV)

Every litter of puppies knows what it needs.

There’s no ambiguity about it, no overthinking, no wondering whether it’s appropriate to ask. They are hungry, and they say so, and they go after what will satisfy that hunger with everything they have. It is single-minded and uncomplicated and, honestly, a little instructive.

Peter uses a similar image — newborns who crave. Not casually desire. Not politely request. Crave. The Greek word here is intense — an almost physical longing for something the body knows it cannot survive without.

That’s the posture Peter is describing for our relationship with Scripture. Not dutiful. Not disciplined in a gritted-teeth kind of way. But genuinely hungry. Coming to the Word because something in us knows we need it — knows we won’t grow without it — and going after it accordingly.

It’s a good question to sit with at the close of a month: how hungry am I, really? Not guilty about the answer — just honest about it. Because hunger, when we notice it, points us back toward the source.

Thirty days of Rooted Growth. Thirty scriptures. Thirty invitations to go a little deeper.

The milk is still here. Come back tomorrow.
